Emili Earhart – opens

YAK (DET) on tour

BC Grimm – closes

YAK is an ambient/industrial duo of amplified, bowed friction on strings and metal. Their 2017 Midwest Tour is an audio-visual journey into the existential mind-state of the Tibetan beast, the Yak. These sounds are tailor-made for the shaggy beast of burden of the Himalayan Plateau, evoking their life and spirit in a mesmerizing structured improvisation cycle.

Yuri Popowycz (violin) is a Detroit-based violinist, electronic music producer/performer, and illustrator. He performs with the Michigan Opera Theatre and is assistant concertmaster with the Michigan Philharmonic. He also plays out frequently in the city and is active with Detroit Bureau of Sound. Yuri is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy ‘11, and the Oberlin Conservatory ‘15, and has toured in Japan as concertmaster of the PMF orchestra as well as performed in Europe alongside the Jack quartet with the Lucerne Festival Academy. Currently he runs the ambient music label Music To Stretch To and enjoys working with all the wonderful artists living nearby.

Zac Brunell (percussion) is a performer and concert producer in the Motor City. As director of the Detroit Bureau of Sound, his work engulfs a range of avant garde music through his productions, which have been described as “sounding as raw as mating bull elephants” (Lansing City Pulse on “X is for Xenakis”). A classically trained percussionist and pianist, Zac is a graduate of the Michigan State University College of Music and is currently Production Manager with the award-winning ensemble New Music Detroit.

Prolific Chicago-based saxophonist Dave Rempis (Rempis Percussion Quartet, Ballister, The Engines, Vandermark Five) makes his first Madison appearance in five years, performing solo, and in collaboration with Madison-based improvising trio Stray Passage.  This special night is part of a larger series of solo performances Rempis is undertaking throughout North America in 2017, with the goal of building a unique approach to solo saxophone that will be documented for release on his Aerophonic records imprint next fall, while also working to strengthen the informal networks that connect, inform, and sustain the improvised music scene worldwide.

Brennan Connors & Stray Passage (Madison)

Experimental Jazz Trio Brennan Connors & Stray Passage has been performing in Madison for over three years, exciting listeners with their range of sonic capabilities.  Their improvised music is directly linked to the atmosphere in the room and energy of the audience.  Attendees will experience a jazz trio that embraces free and structured improvisation, original compositions, groove based experiments, and sound exploration. The breadth of a performance ranges from focused minimalism to fiery high energy music, all while maintaining a sense of narrative organization and compelling ensemble interplay.

10/9, 10/10 | “Toxic Consonance” CD Release Updates!

“Toxic Consonance” CD Release Updates!

Tone Madison was gracious enough to debut our new single, Humus, last week!  This 5/8 tune written by our cellist Pat Reinholz features driving rhythmic elements in combination with singing melodies.  The track opens with a distorted double bass solo by Ben Willis, and features some hardcore shredding on Gaohu (two string Cantonese bowed fiddle) by BC Grimm.  Listen to this sneak peak of the album – it sounds great, thanks to our incredible studio engineer Landon Arkens!

On Friday, 10/09 from 4-5pm Live on WSUM 91.7fm ~ Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps “Phones It In” for an interview with radio host Emili Earhart!  She’ll dig into the contents of the new album and try to pry out the inside scoop whilst premiering some of her favorite tracks off of the new album!  Tune in on-air or online!

The CDs are here and they are a pleasure to the eyes. A big Thanks goes out to our artist/designer Josh Newland – he really knocked this one out of the park.  Another special thank you to Sooper Dooper, we’re so spoiled to have a great print house/duplicator service right in our back yard.  Keep your eyes out in the coming months for a special ‘letter press’ Mrs. Phipps poster.  **We’re currently printing off limited run mirror board edition CDs, only available at live shows!

The T-shirts are here, the posters are in, it’s all coming together folks!  As the band gathers this weekend, we’ll be organizing all of the prizes to be shipped out to our Indie-GoGo supporters.  We really couldn’t have produced this album without your help, thank you so much!  Your rewards will be heading out next week!

We have a wonderful announcement: our friend and collaborator Dale Kaminski will be joining the show on Saturday! He’ll be performing live visual projections as PAKAPAKA Lightshow during the Lovely Socialite set! PAKAPAKA Lightshow always delights and adds an extra layer of narrative to some already programmatic music.  We are very excited and hope you will join us!
