For those of you who follow along with GrimmusiK (or have looked at the shows page on this website) you’ll notice that I play bass every Tuesday night from 9p-12 at The Mason Lounge with the Five Points Jazz Collective. The Mason Lounge is one of my favorite bars in Madison, WI. Brian, the owner, serves 15-or-so carefully selected craft beers on tap which thoroughly range the palette. Every Tuesday, I eagerly await a rundown on the new kegs that have been tapped.
This week, we’re happy to have a special trio night with Brennan Connors & Stray Passage! “Brennan Connors & Stray Passage is bringing it’s unique blend of free jazz, improvised music, and original compositions to the Mason. Come join us for a night of dynamic music running the gamut from fiery high energy sounds to focused minimalism. Brennan Connors on saxophones; Brian Grimm on cello and bass; Geoff Brady on drums and percussion.”
We’ll be spending the hour with DJ host Emili Earhart, who has graciously invited us to WSUM studios for a live-set + interview! You can tune in on your radio by dialing in to 91.7fm (in the Madison area) or remotely from WSUM’s home page!
Twin Peaks Party: music, book signing, coffee, screen printing, costume contest, and more!!!
I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to put together a little 7-piece group called, “Leo Johnson & The New Shoes” (which I believe was coined by our very own Huckleberry Grimm) – comprising of Lovely Socialite members BCG, Abe Sorber, Corey Murphy & Pat Reinholz, joined by Geoff Brady (drums – Stray Passage, Yid Vicious), Rob Lundberg (bass) & Julian Lynch (sax & clarinet). Over the past 2 weeks, Lovely Socialites, including Pat Reinholz, Corey Murphy, Ben Willis & myself, have been hard at work arranging the famous Angelo Badalamenti soundtrack from the show. Recently, I sat down with Scott Gordon of Tone Madison at WORT for an interview on the arranging process – check it out here! >> Tone MSN – Brian Grimm on channeling the music of Twin Peaks

Come dressed as your favorite Twin Peaks character and have your picture taken in the Black Lodge photo booth.
A personal treat: one of my favorite Madison bands, CONTROL, set at one of my favorite Madison venues, Mickey’s Tavern. It is here that we convene this Friday night, Jan the 23rd, to melt-face. Two power trios, one of the rock &/or roll variety & one of the free-jazz persuasion. Come on down, bang your head, rock with us.
