Though the wind may howl and yetis prowl, Adult Swim is keeping it warm, wacky, and weird!

Laminal Animal, a Madison-based trio consisting of Luke Leavitt (piano and electronics), Tim Russell (percussion and electronics), and Ari Smith (bass, percussion and electronics), utilizes improvisation to investigate emergent, complex social interactions in order to create and navigate new sonic landscapes.

Adult Swim at Madison Children’s Museum honors the public pool tradition of kicking the kids out so adults can have the space to themselves (without the water or need for a swimsuit). This 21-and-up event series offers adults the opportunity to play like a grown-up for the evening—crawling, sliding, crafting, and dancing their way through the museum.

Adult Swim is presented by the Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co.

The Greater Madison Jazz Consortium, WORT, & Isthmus Present:

5/23/14  STROLLIN SCHENK’S CORNERS

Brennan Connors & Stray Passage (featuring Tim Russell subbing in for Geoff Brady on percussion) will be playing Friday, 5/23 at Thorps Salon for the first ever “Madison Jazz Crawl“!  We’re thrilled to play along side our buddies John Christensen & Devin Drobka as they shape-shift into Lesser Lakes Trio!  The first show that Stray Passage ever played was at Audio For the Arts with John & Devin (then performing with Luke Polipnick as Deconunisms).  This year I have been the house bass player at The Mason Lounge every Tuesday night from 9-12 with the 5 Points Jazz Collective.  Charlie Painter, jazz guitarist & 5-Points band leader, will be performing with his Trio at One Barrel Brewing.  If you’re around for the late sets, don’t forget to swing by Alchemy Cafe to hear saxophonist Tony Barba guest with Paddy Cassidy & El Clan Destino!

Come on out ‘n bop around!  Celebrate Jazz in Madison & the wonderful, unique local establishments found on Schenk’s Corners!

IMG_5997TEA & IMPROV vs FREAKFEST

10/26 DOBRA TEA 9-11pm

BROTHER STRIPES

DB PEDERSEN + BC GRIMM

This will prove our most challenging free improv session to date, as the Dobra Tea experimental music series takes on… Freakfest.  Your journey to the tea room will not be an easy one.  No doubt there will be endless visual entertainment & inspiration as we skronk.  Most importantly this All Hallows Eve Weekend, we celebrate the coming of Brother Stripes (more below).  Nick & Tim are exceptional performers and we gladly welcome them.  So come to Dobra – sip tea, open your ears, stay warm, and costume watch with us!

THE BROTHER STRIPES is the combined output of Nick Zoulek, Saxophonist and Percussionist Tim Russell. Their quest to produce an improvisational authenticity leads them through the depths of self discovery, constantly challenging both performer and perceiver to find commonalities in communicating this existence.
